Derbyshire Police to launch new ‘behind the scenes’ podcast 

Derbyshire Constabulary is preparing to lift the lid on modern policing with the launch of a brand-new podcast offering an honest, behind-the-scenes look at life in the force. 

Titled Off Duty, the podcast aims to go beyond headlines and social media comment sections to explore what policing in Derbyshire is really like - as told by the people who live it every day. 

Each episode will feature officers, police staff and special guests stepping away from their day jobs to talk candidly about the challenges they face, the human moments that stay with them, and the stories the public rarely gets to hear. From high-pressure incidents to quieter reflections, Off Duty focuses on the realities of policing both on and off the clock. 

Crucially, the force is inviting members of the public to be part of the podcast from the very first episode by submitting questions for guests to answer. 

Listeners might want to know what it’s really like to be a firearms officer, how police dog handlers care for their canine colleagues when they’re not on shift, or how negotiators help guide people through crises in the middle of the night. Others may be curious about the experiences of call handlers speaking to distressed callers while every second counts. 

The first series will feature a wide range of voices from across the force, including: 

• A police dog handler 

• A member of the firearms unit 

• The head of the contact centre 

• A Fraud Protection officer 

• An officer from the dedicated football unit 

• A Superintendent from the Serious Organised Crime unit
