Dance stars shine bright at national finals

Stardust Dance Centre

Glossop-based Latin and Ballroom dance school, Stardust Dance Centre, have scooped an array of awards at the national finals.

The school is proudly celebrating a weekend of exceptional performances, as five of their talented teams competed in the National League of Dance Schools Finals in Blackpool.

After a year of dedication, training, and success in regional competitions, all five Stardust teams qualified for the prestigious national finals, representing the school in every category; Under 12's, Under 16's, Adults, Over 35’s, and All Ladies. The teams showcased not only their incredible skill but also the true spirit of teamwork and mutual support that defines Stardust.

The weekend showcased outstanding performances from all the couples representing the school, set against the backdrop of a highly competitive national final. With five Stardust teams going head-to-head with over 100 other teams across the various age categories, the competition was fierce, but the dancers rose to the challenge and shone bright, all making it through to their respective finals.

The weekend’s highlight was all the triumphant victories of the Under 12’s and Over 35’s teams, both of which clinched the national championship titles in their respective divisions. However, the success didn’t stop there. Isla Baker and Sophie Hamflett’s sensational Jive earned them 3rd place in the Under 12 Jive Medallion Award competition on the opening night.

The juvenile team continued to shine, with Lucas Stopford and Emily Barrow winning the Under 8 Latin competition, dazzling the judges with their Jive and Cha Cha Cha, while Ethan Boyce and Libby Dentith claimed 6th place in the Under 10 Latin event after delivering an impressive Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Jive and Samba in their final.

The 50-59 Ballroom open saw continued success for Stardust, with Geoff Preston and Anna Diaz securing 5th place and Andy and Michell Howard taking 3rd place in the Ballroom competition after both couples performed a captivating Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Quickstep.

However, the true story of the weekend was not just the accolades, but the immense support the dancers gave each other throughout the competition. School Principal Paula Graves shared her pride in seeing the spirit of camaraderie shine through: "It was incredible to watch everyone dance their hearts out and achieve such amazing results after months of hard work" she said. "But what truly stood out was the teamwork, especially from the juvenile team. They cheered each other on, even when competing against one another, and celebrated each other’s victories. The bonds they’ve formed through dance are as strong as any medal or trophy they earned."

For Stardust, the national finals are not just about competition, but also about building lasting friendships and memories both on and off the dancefloor. "The weekend is a chance for our dancers to show their progress, but it’s also about having fun and making memories with their teammates" said Paula. "The connections they make and the support they give each other will last far beyond the competition."
