A new programme of professional live entertainment is launching at Victoria Hall in Glossop, with comedy, theatre, music and family shows planned as part of a regular year-round programme.
Live At Victoria Hall is a new curated programme bringing touring acts from across the UK to the area, alongside local stars from Glossop and Manchester.
It has been founded by Glossop-based theatre producers and venue managers Alice de Cent and Tom Crawshaw, who have more than 20 years’ experience hosting comedy and theatre in the High Peak, as well as in Manchester, London, Oxford and Edinburgh.
The new venture has been made possible by Friends of Victoria Hall, a volunteer-run community interest company (CIC) established to bring the 140-year old Grade II-listed building back into community use.
The group has recently overseen a major renovation of Victoria Hall, including a new entrance, toilets and kitchen, with the venue now able to accommodate up to 120 people.
Confirmed shows in the initial programme include a Halloween-themed improvised musical, children’s comedy show ComedySportz, music from award-winning acoustic duo Darren & Trish, and a new family Christmas show from acclaimed Buxton theatre group Babbling Vagabonds.
The programme launches on Saturday, October 17, with Glossop drag queen Angela Bra bringing her hit Edinburgh Fringe show, Secret Diary of a Bingo Call Girl, to the venue.
Tom Crawshaw said: “Victoria Hall is such a fantastic space and the team there have been so supportive. We’re excited to create a live performance space that serves Glossop, that hosts the kind of shows people want to see but also a stage for local performers as well.
