The Conservatives have won the Cote Heath by-election, taking the High Peak Borough Council seat that had previously been held by Labour.
Conservative candidate Kev Kirkham polled 585 votes from Labour’s Alan Geoffrey Smith, who received 413 votes, and Peter Colin Crook from the Green Party with 56 votes.
The turnout in the election was 32.56 per cent.
The vacant seat had been held by Labour councillor Keith Savage, who sadly died in December.
The result means that Labour have lost their majority and overall control of the 43-seat council as they now have 21 seats.
Conservatives have 16 seats, Liberal Democrats three, the Green Party two and there is one independent councillor.
