Church bells ring out to mark the Queen's death

Church bells tolled across the High Peak and the whole country on Friday lunchtime.

The bells rang out at various locations including Glossop Parish Church of All Saints, Trinity Church in Burbage, Buxton, and St Thomas Becket Church in Chapel-en-le-Frith between midday and 1pm.

Parish churches, chapels and cathedrals had been encouraged to toll their bells and open for prayer or special services following the announcement of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Guidance from the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers had recommended tolling bells for one hour from noon.

A Tower Tour due to take place Glossop Parish Church of All Saints on Saturday (10 September) as part of the Heritage Open Days has been postponed.

Announcing the move, the Old Glossop Ringers stated they hope to reorganise the event in the near future.
