Chapel firefighters to walk 95km to raise money for Children with Cancer

A group of fight firefighters from Chapel-en-le-Frith have come together to raise money for the charity Children with Cancer.

After meeting Sierra, a youngster who they came across on a callout a few months ago, the team decided to raise money for this charity with the vision to “ help all children with cancer, and hopefully help the next little girl or boy through their hard journey”.

The team of seven (Chris Prodromis, Joe Lomas, Simon Wathall, Lee Cowell, Charlie Gyte, Glynn green, Cameron Liddle) will be walking 95km (59 miles) while wearing breathing apparatus.

They will be walking from Glossop Fire Station to Swadlincote Fire Station (the two Derbyshire fire stations with the greatest distance between) as well as stopping at several stations along the way for refreshments.

Chris Prodromis, who is taking part in the walk, said: “Training has been hard at times, and we are a little nervous about the challenge ahead, but we understand how important the charity is, and how special little sierra is, which motivates us to work hard and raise as money for this great cause as we can.

“We will keep reminding ourselves that our pain will soon go, but these kids can live in pain all their lives.”

So far, the team have raised £600 for charity, exceeding their £500 target.
