Hadfield Bowling Club is appealing to the local community to support their crowdfunding campaign for a vital upgrade.
The historic club, which has been at the heart of the community for more than 100 years, is aiming to replace its outdated floodlights, originally installed in 1990, with modern LED units. The improvements will support the environment, reduce energy costs, improve visibility and allow members to enjoy bowling safely into the evenings, as some of the current lighting is no longer working and limits the hours of available play.
“Upgrading to energy-efficient floodlights isn’t just about brighter lighting,” said a club spokesperson. “It’s about helping us continue to host events that bring joy, connection, and pride to our members and the wider community.”
Hadfield Bowling Club currently has around 100 members - including 24 new joiners this year - and continues to thrive as a hub for sport and community connection. The club hosts eight teams competing in local leagues, as well as welcoming numerous local groups for casual play and social activities.
In addition to the lighting appeal, the club recently installed a community defibrillator at its entrance gates, kindly donated by Glossopdale Community Defibrillators. The device is available for public use, and the club will host a defibrillator training session at its clubhouse in January for anyone interested in learning how to use it. To encourage donations, the club has launched a series of rewards to thank supporters for their contributions. These include promotional opportunities for local businesses, personalised plaques and even a one-to-one coaching session.
Supporter Rewards Include:
- Promotional Board: £200
- Promotional Banner: £100
- Donation Recognition Plaque: £50
- Name Plaque on Bench: £100
- One-to-One Coaching Session: £20
- Burger and a Beer: £15
- Any donation, large or small, will make a meaningful difference
The club says the installation of new LED floodlights will not only enhance evening play but also encourage more people to take up the sport, strengthening community bonds and supporting physical and mental well-being.
Residents are encouraged to make a pledge and share the campaign to help Hadfield Bowling Club reach its goal as fast as possible. Quotes for the work are already in place and it can be carried out as soon as the funds are raised.
