Calling all artists: Spoken word open mic nights to return to Glossop

Glossop Spoken Word Open Mic nights return to Glossop Labour Club Chapel Street on Thursday 6th February at 7.00pm.

The regular event takes place on the first Thursday of the month and entry is free.

The open mic nights started in September 2022 and continues to provide a platform for writers of any genre to share showcase and perform aspects of their work. Since that first night there has been over 60 performers and hopefully 2025 will continue to be as successful but host Andy Millican is keen to attract new writers to the event which maintains a variety and freshness to the evenings.

While the focus is on local writers anyone is very welcome to come down and contribute to our great monthly events.

Poets, playwrights and authors – of flash fiction, monologues, short stories or even extracts from their novels – demonstrate the wide and diverse content which can be heard. For many would be and reclusive writers sharing their work for the first time can be a daunting challenge but Andy says the other participants and audience are very welcoming.

Each month a special guest performs an extended slot and Andy has got a list performers lined up for 2025. For further information, visit - www.facebook.com/GlossopBookFest.

A 15 minute interlude allows local musicians The Dimestore Dirtbags aka Randy and Sarah Horton to showcase and entertain everyone with their own clever compositions and cover versions.

If you want to perform then you will need to book one of the five minute slots available via andy.millican@hotmail.co.uk.
