An insight into Tintwistle's World War Two heroes

Two friends have published a book that gives a fascinating insight into the men and women from their village who served in World War Two.

After months of research, Susan Brierley and Ann Rochell have written ‘Tintwistle’s Second World War.’

Susan said: “We initially researched about the men who lost their lives in 2017 and followed this with an exhibition at the United Reformed Church, on Old Road.

“We managed to get information from the Commonwealth Graves records, local families and local papers.

“The book enables us to share this information to a wider audience as a way of ensuring that all the information lives on.”

Susan and Ann describe the book, which is a sequel to their also published ‘Tintwistle’s First World War’, as a snapshot of village life.

The book, which is on sale at £5, can be bought by calling Susan on 01457 862032, Ann on 07544 232867, or from the Village Store or Pixie Bakes, both on New Road.
