Glossop Mountain Rescue Team were called out at 7.00pm on Wednesday 7th January, to assist two walkers and their dog who had become disoriented on Torside Moor.
As it was the team’s regular training night, an above-average number of volunteers were available to respond. A fast response group was deployed to reach the walkers quickly, with additional team members following behind.
The walkers stayed in one place and used a torch to signal their position when they spotted the team’s lights in the distance. Once contact was made, the team provided extra warm clothing and ice spikes before escorting them safely off the hill.

The evening proved a little tiring for the dog, which required a short carry on the return. After a brief rest on a team member’s shoulders, the dog recovered enough energy to walk the final few metres back to the rescue vehicles.
The walkers were then returned safely to their own vehicle and able to head home.
Mountain Rescue volunteers are reminding people that winter conditions remain snowy and icy on the hills, and to carefully consider appropriate winter equipment before heading out.
Glossop Mountain Rescue is a voluntary organisation and relies entirely on donations from the public. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
