A memorial service and a talk were held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the bombing of New Mills and Hayfield at the weekend.
A talk by Frank Pleszak into the history of the bombing was held on Friday evening and on Sunday the anniversary service was held at Low Leighton Methodist Community Church.
Two people died in New Mills and a further six died in Hayfield as a result of the bombing on 3 July 1942 by two German Junkers bombers. They were later shot down over Lincolnshire by fighters from the Polish 303 Squadron.
High Peak MP Robert Largan, who was one of those who attended the service, said: “It’s really important that we remember our local history.”
