McDonald’s crew from the Wren Nest Retail Park in Glossop teamed up with Glossop North End Community Club for a litter pick, as part of an effort to keep their local areas tidy.
A total of 22 volunteers took part, including players and parents from several North End FC teams.
Led by McDonald’s Store Manager Phil Mack, the group spent a couple of hours working to clean the area. Starting and finishing at the McDonald’s restaurant, which is owned and operated by local Franchisee Stuart Broadbelt, volunteers split into groups of three to cover areas such as the high street, local park and car parks.
In total the team collected an impressive 11 bags of rubbish and covered over 1.5 miles, making a noticeable difference in the local environment.
The event highlights the strong ongoing partnership between McDonald’s and Glossop North End Community Club, as well as their shared commitment to supporting the local area.
Local McDonald’s Franchisee, Stuart Broadbelt, who owns and operates the restaurant, said:
“Our ongoing partnership with Glossop North End Community Club has been a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local organisations come together. It has been really rewarding to see the restaurant team step up and give their time to support with the litter pick. Their efforts to keep shared spaces clean and litter free help create a better and brighter place for those that live here. Seeing the restaurant and North End Community Club come together in this way shows the passion and pride they both have in the communities they serve.”

“This litter pick was a great opportunity to work together and give something back to the town. We really appreciate the support the team at McDonald’s Glossop has provided to the club over the last couple of years. As a community club, we feel we play a major role locally and want to make a real difference. It was fantastic to see such a good turnout for this organised event and it’s definitely something we’d like to repeat in the future. A big thank you to everyone who got involved.”
For more than 35 years, McDonald’s crew members have been actively helping to keep local communities’ litter free. Across the UK, restaurant teams carry out three litter patrols every day around each restaurant, collecting all litter in the surrounding area, not just McDonald’s packaging. Together, this covers around 5,000 miles each week.
McDonald’s addresses litter in communities in multiple ways, both by organising regular litter picks and by ensuring their packaging can be recycled.
As part of its mission, the brand has been working to make recycling easier, and has installed recycling units in all restaurants, making it easier to separate plastics. In addition, McDonald’s collects used cooking oil from its kitchens and converts it into enough biodiesel to power more than half of its delivery fleet.
