Feeling the January Blues? Look no further, The Bodyguard will lift your spirits, warm your hearts and make you want to dance with somebody. My sister and I were lucky enough to attend a Monday evening showing of The Bodyguard and what a great weekday treat it made.

It is not an easy task bringing the 1992 film to life, but this cast delivered. At the heart of the show was the relationship between popstar Rachel Marron, played by Sidonie Smith, and her bodyguard Frank Farmer, played by Adam Garcia. Frank is hired to protect Rachel from a sinister stalker who sends chills throughout the theatre every time he appears from the shadows. As Rachel becomes seemingly more aware of the threat, she becomes more receptive to Frank’s protection…and love. Together, Rachel and Frank displayed a great chemistry and we did not want to see them apart.
A special shoutout goes to The Stalker, played by James-Lee Harris, whose character frightened the audience. James’ performance was so convincing that we didn’t know whether to boo or cheer him during the final ovation. He was striking, tense and kept us on the edge of our seats throughout. His lack of dialogue made him feel unpredictable and kept us guessing what was going to happen next.
I also have to mention Rachel’s son Fletcher, played by Cale Cole. He performed with confidence, enthusiasm and talent. His relationship with Frank made it all the better. Fletcher is fascinated by Frank. They share a warming rapport and often bonded over Frank’s interest in cars and security. We see a change in Frank’s character when he soon realises that Rachel is not the only one in danger, her son is too. Their relationship makes the final scenes particularly moving, when Frank says his goodbyes. Not only is Frank saying goodbye to Rachel, but to a boy who sees him as the hero.
I cannot forget about the choreography. The dancers were full of energy, skill and confidence. Their twirls, flips and kicks added visual excitement to the show and made the songs even more enjoyable to sing along to.
If you want to sing along to iconic hits like Queen of the Night, How Will I Know, I have Nothing and be brought to tears by I Will Always Love You, you must attend.
If you get the chance, you must go! Lucky for you, The Bodyguard is showing at the Palace Theatre until Saturday, 31st January 2026. Find your tickets here: https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/the-bodyguard/palace-theatre-manchester/
