Manchester’s Opera House is currently home to the brand new DDJL musical ‘Come Fall in Love’, bringing vibrant culture to every punter. This show follows Simran – a young British woman who is set for an arranged marriage back in India. Before that, she plans one more summer of freedom, but ends up stuck with Roger, a laid-back, easy-going, and LOVABLE man. In this story of love, wit, and culture, not a soul won’t smile at the heartwarming unravelling of this tale.

One thing that surprised me about this show was the crowd - they brought an atmosphere unlike anything I have ever seen or felt before! There was so much culture in one room, and the excitement was infectious.

Moving into the show, it was amazing to see the sets getting so much appreciation from a roaring crowd. It did take me back, but it is such a brilliant thing to see the hard work of a truly magnificent set being appreciated in all its glory. They defined the true culture of the show and deserve all the credit they've been given so far.

Onto the performances: Everything about this show is electric. The dances, the songs – all of it was so incredible. It truly was the perfect blend of British and Indian culture smashed to life with vibrant colours and nothing but joy.

Jena Pandya (Simran) and Ashley Day (Rog) were the perfect couple, and the perfect pair to bring this to life. The chemistry is undeniable between these two and was a joy to watch. The culture shone through, and this spectacle truly shows what love is.

Kinshuk Sen (Kuljit) was a personal highlight for me. As the intended fiancé to the female lead, this can be a forgotten part if not done correctly, but the comedic timing within the role was so welcomed, and with his very OTT behaviour, it was the cherry on the cake of a great performance.

It was very nice to see some deeper performances in such a bright piece, shown in particular by Irvine Iqbal (Baldev). The power behind the opening number, ‘So Far, ’ really gave depth to the internal struggle of the desire for Baldev’s homeland.

The ensemble really made this show shine. Every dance was impactful, culturally brilliant, and an energetic excellence the whole way through. Unreal performances from them and a hat tip to the choreographer and director for creating this masterpiece.

‘Come Fall In Love’ is at the Opera house until the 21st of June. Tickets are available from: https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/come-fall-in-love/opera-house-manchester/
