Children from 14 schools across Victorious Academies Trust have proudly completed a pioneering Wellbeing Ambassador Programme, equipping them with the skills, confidence and compassion to champion mental health in their school communities.
The six-week initiative saw pupils take part in specialist training days focused on understanding mental health, recognising factors that affect wellbeing, identifying signs of when someone may be struggling, and learning practical strategies to support themselves and their peers.
The young Ambassadors finished the programme by pledging to help create safe, supportive school environments where students feel able to talk openly about mental health.
Pupils described the experience as uplifting and empowering, with many sharing how much their confidence has grown. One Ambassador said: “It’s nice to know how to help people,” capturing the spirit of kindness and empathy at the heart of the project.
To celebrate their achievements, the Trust hosted a special Wellbeing Celebration Event at Dukinfield Town Hall. Ambassadors and their families were joined by Councillor Shibley Alam, Civic Mayor of Tameside, Trust Chief Executive Officer Karen Burns and Trust Wellbeing Development Officer Leanne Frankish. All praised the children for their dedication, leadership and commitment to supporting others.
Karen Burns expressed her pride, saying: “These children are the future of our communities. Their compassion, understanding and willingness to support others is truly inspiring. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the positive impact they are already making in their schools.”
Councillor Shibley Alam added: “It was a privilege to attend this celebration and witness the enthusiasm and empathy these young people have shown. Their commitment to wellbeing is a shining example of how we can build kinder, more supportive communities from the ground up.”
Reflecting on the programme, Leanne Frankish said: “The whole programme from start to finish was a reminder that we are creating a cohort of children who will learn how to show empathy, kindness and how to bring joy to others. The children were such great role models and showed what it truly means to be a kind and thoughtful young person.”
The celebration showcased pupils’ learning, creativity and compassionate leadership, a powerful reminder of the difference children can make when they are empowered and supported.
