Young author Julia Bugno releases second magical tale while supporting Ukrainian children

After capturing hearts and making a big difference with her debut book, The Fairy Family and the Lost Puppy, Denton’s very own young author Julia Bugno is back, this time with another enchanting adventure.

Julia’s latest release, The Fairy Family and the Huge Watermelon, takes readers on a sparkling new journey with familiar characters Lilly, Ben, Mummy Fairy, Daddy Fairy, and the ever-lovable Cookie the puppy. In this charming sequel, the fairy siblings plant watermelon seeds, only to discover that one of them grows into something giant and magically unexpected.

“It’s a fun, exciting story full of surprises, family teamwork, and a lot of fairy sparkle,” Julia told us. “You can read it on its own, but if you’ve read my first book, you’ll already know a bit about their world.”

The Denton youngster’s storytelling talent is matched by her generosity. Just like with her first book, £2 from every sale of her new release is donated to Sunflower Manchester, a charity supporting Ukrainian children affected by the war. Her first book helped raise hundreds of pounds for the cause, and Julia is determined to keep making a difference.

“I’m so excited to share that I’m continuing to support Sunflower Manchester,” she says. “Please help me support Ukrainian children and never give up.”

But writing and giving back isn’t all Julia’s been busy with. She’s also channelling her creativity into merchandise to go with the book, including bookmarks, bracelets, and even T-shirts on the way.

“I love reading and imagining magical stories, and one day I just started writing one down,” Julia explained. “My family encouraged me to keep going. My mum helps me with the illustrations, and it’s really fun to bring my ideas to life.”

Julia’s books are entirely illustrated by her mother Anna Bugno.

With a third book already in the works, Julia hopes to keep inspiring other children to follow their dreams, no matter how young they are.

Both of Julia’s books are available for £5 each, or £8 for both, perfect for any young reader with a love for magic, family, and fairy sparkle.
