The much-loved Flower Festival at Willow Wood Hospice is set to celebrate a major milestone this spring as it marks its 10th edition with an enchanting new theme.
Taking place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May 2026, this year’s event will be inspired by the magical world of Beatrix Potter, bringing a touch of nostalgia and creativity to the Hospice grounds.
Iconic characters including Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle will be brought to life through imaginative floral displays created by local individuals and community groups. Visitors will be able to explore the exhibits at their own pace, enjoying the vibrant and artistic interpretations throughout the Hospice on Willow Wood Close in Ashton-under-Lyne.
The festival is not only a visual delight but also an important fundraiser, supporting the compassionate care provided by Willow Wood Hospice to patients across Tameside and Glossop living with life-limiting illnesses. Many of the floral arrangements will be available to purchase at the end of the weekend, helping to raise additional funds.
The event will be officially opened on Saturday 9th May at 11am by Mark Llewellin DL, High Sheriff of Greater Manchester and a long-time supporter, former patron and trustee of the Hospice, who will cut the ribbon.
Organised by a dedicated committee of volunteers, the annual fundraiser has raised around £70,000 over the years – enough to fund all Hospice services, both on-site and in the community, for an entire week.
Eileen Smith, speaking on behalf of the Flower Festival committee, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be celebrating the 10th Flower Festival this year, and the Beatrix Potter theme has given everyone so much inspiration. It’s wonderful to see our local community coming together to create such imaginative and beautiful displays, all in support of the Hospice.
“The festival is always a special weekend for us, not only because of the creativity on show, but because of the difference it makes. Every visit helps us to continue supporting Willow Wood Hospice and the essential care it provides to patients and those closest to them.”
The festival will run from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and from 11am to 4pm on Sunday. Entry is £3.50 per person, with children aged 12 and under admitted free. Light refreshments will be available throughout the weekend.
Ahead of the main event, the committee is also hosting a Coffee Morning at the Hospice on Saturday 18th April from 10am to midday. The event will feature a talk by Hospice Lead Gardener Sophie Cordingley on preparing gardens for spring and summer.
Admission for the Coffee Morning is £3 per person, which includes tea, coffee and biscuits, with all proceeds going towards the Flower Festival.
