Wildlife morning to kickstart family summer holiday activities Saturday 25 July

Friends of the Tame Valley and Tameside’s People 4 Wildlife have come together to organise a fun-filled morning of wildlife discovery and outdoor activities.

The event is taking place on Saturday 25 July between 10.30am and 12.30pm at Bailey Bridge in the Tame Valley between Denton and Dukinfield.

Have you ever heard of a Gammarus or Blue Winged Olive? What about a falcon or an owl – amazing birds… but have you ever met one up close? Well, now’s your chance!

Come along and:

·         Meet incredible invertebrates from the River Tame.

·         Get up close with magnificent birds of prey from Tameside's People 4 Wildlife

·         Head off on a woodland story walk where you’ll discover creatures that are curious, colourful… and in some cases… completely made up!

Families are especially welcome, but the event is for all ages. The birds of prey displays and story walks will repeat at 10.45 and 11.30, so you won’t miss out, and the invertebrate encounters are running all morning. Refreshments will also be on sale. It’s a five-minute walk from St Anne’s Road or Dunkirk Lane car park.

Chair of Friends of the Tame Valley, Steve Martin, said: “The invertebrate encounters offer an incredible opportunity to discover the hidden world of river insects living right here in the Tame Valley. This event is suitable for curious explorers of all ages, and both adults and children have enjoyed our previous discovery sessions.”

Danny McKay from Tameside’s People 4 Wildlife said: “We’ll be bringing along our male lanner falcon who is progressing well with his training and will be doing a flying display. We’ll also be bringing along a friendly barn owl to meet visitors. We will also have a third bird with us, but you’ll have to come along on the day to see which one!”

Story Walker Anna said: “Around every corner of our valley lies a tall tale and a place full of memories and imagination. Come take a walk and hear old stories and create new ones together.”
