Plans for a huge new multi-storey car park and footbridge in Stalybridge have taken another step forward.
It is hoped the new car park will increase parking capacity within the town centre and the footbridge will improve accessibility and connectivity across the town centre. This forms part of a town hall multi-million-pound vision for the area.
Bosses say the centre of the neighbourhood is tired, lacks natural green spaces and is dominated by cars.
The civic hall, library, road network and public squares will all get an overhaul over the next few years under the plans.
This forms part of the Stalybridge Capital Regeneration Programme funded by £20m from the Government focussing on three key project areas to enhance the town’s public spaces and attract visitors to support local businesses; highlight Stalybridge’s cultural heritage; and attract further investment and growth.
Now residents and businesses are being invited to an informal drop-in information session next week to review and feedback on the proposal.
The drop-in organised by the Tameside Council is taking place in Stalybridge Civic Hall on Wednesday, July 16 from 3pm until 7pm and locals are welcome to pop in and talk to the team to find out more about the key projects currently underway.
Cllr. Andrew McLaren, Tameside Council, deputy leader and executive member for growth, housing and homelessness said: “The multi-storey car park and footbridge are elements which will improve the connectivity and accessibility of the town.
“We want people to understand more about the features and how they could look and be added to enhance the town and share their feedback with us for the next stages of development.
“We have been working with local ward councillors and stakeholders to bring forward these improvements.”
