Veteran Denton footballers put their best foot forward for Children in Need

Fresh legs will be few and far between for members of Denton Walking Football Group at the end of the week.

The veteran players will be putting their experience to good use during a 12-hour walking football marathon to raise money for Children in Need on Friday.

Spokesman Gordon Nixon said: “We’re planning a 12-hour game with rolling substitutes - no one will be on the field for the duration of the marathon, we’re all a bit past that!

“We have 80 players signed on at Denton so we’re hoping as many members as possible can get down to our base on King Street and take part at some stage in the day.

"We’ve also called on some of our friends from Curzon Ashton Walking Football Group, Dukinfield Ladies Cricket Club are sending a team down to help out and there’s a ladies netball team from Glossop popping across for a kickabout.

“It’s all for a good cause and we’d welcome anyone who fancies trying out walking football for themselves to come down and give it a go on the day. I’m sure the regulars will be glad of a breather!”
