Two men from Tameside have charged after Greater Manchester Police carried out a major 24-hour operation targeting sex offenders across the region.
A 23-year-old man from Droylsden has been charged with breaching the sex offenders’ register and is due to appear before Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on 6 January 2026.
Meanwhile, a 76-year-old man from Mossley was fined after being found to have breached the conditions of his registration.
They were among 11 men arrested on Wednesday 24 September by GMP’s specialist Sex Offender Management Unit and Sex Offender Crime Investigation Team, who work to ensure convicted sex offenders comply with court-imposed restrictions.
In total, 10 positive outcomes were secured within 24 hours of the operation - including charges, convictions, and one offender being recalled to prison. Officers said the results demonstrate the force’s tough stance and commitment to protecting vulnerable people.
The arrests formed part of a wider effort that saw:
- A man from Bolton jailed for 24 weeks within a day of his arrest.
- A man of no fixed abode given a suspended sentence and fine.
- A 33-year-old man from Staffordshire conditionally discharged.
- Several others charged in Leigh, Crumpsall, Stretford, Failsworth and London.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Turner, from the Sex Offender Management Unit, praised the dedication of his officers: “The public rightly expect us to robustly manage and deal with sex offenders, and we have two dedicated and passionate teams here to do that.
“We are absolutely committed to protecting children and vulnerable people within Greater Manchester from harm. We would encourage anyone with information to come forward to us, as we will act.”
Police are urging anyone affected by sexual abuse or exploitation to seek help. Incidents can be reported by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.
There are also specialist support services across Greater Manchester and nationally which provide free and confidential help. Further information is available via GMP’s online support pages.
