Three men from Tameside have been handed lengthy prison sentences after carrying out a series of violent robberies in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Aron McGinn, aged 40, of Diamond Close, Ashton-under-Lyne; Ryan Stone, aged 38, of Richmond Street, Ashton-under-Lyne; and Jordan Bayley, aged 25, of Whittles Avenue, Denton, all pleaded guilty to robbery. McGinn also admitted possession of a knife.

The trio appeared at Manchester Crown Court on 18 December, where McGinn was jailed for 10 years and four months. Stone was sentenced to six years and nine months, while Bayley received a prison term of three years and 10 months.

The court heard how the men carried out a series of robberies during April, targeting victims in separate incidents across Ashton-under-Lyne.

In the first attack, a homeowner was threatened with a knife after his car alarm was triggered when a window was smashed. When he went outside to investigate, he was confronted by the three men, who stole a necklace before fleeing.

In a second incident, a male victim was forced to drive to a cashpoint and withdraw £50 under threat. Just a day later, the gang attacked a taxi driver, dragging him from his car during a violent robbery.

Following the third attack, officers from Tameside CID launched an investigation, with arrests made around an hour later.

Detective Constable Martin Gregory said: “These are three dangerous and violent men who will be spending a lot of time behind bars.

“Their attacks left their victims with physical and mental scars, and hopefully they will now feel justice has been done.”

Police say the sentences reflect the seriousness of the offences and underline their commitment to tackling violent crime and protecting communities across Tameside.
