Tameside’s rising sporting star 14-year-old Daisey Walker-Jones has struck gold at the prestigious England Age Group Championships, taking first place in her age division and breaking a British record in the process.
Competing in the Under 15s F53 category for Team Manchester, Daisey delivered an outstanding performance on the national stage. In the snatch, she successfully lifted 55kg, 58kg and an impressive 62kg - the latter securing her a new British Snatch Record in her age group. The snatch is where lifters raise the bar from the ground to overhead in a single movement.
She followed up her snatch success with a strong 65kg lift in the clean and jerk – a two-part lift moving the bar from floor to shoulders, then overhead - bringing her total to 127kg, an incredible 10 points ahead of second place.
Daisey’s dominant display not only earned her the national title but also secured her selection to the Great British Pathway Squad team, marking another major milestone in her rapidly developing career.
The talented young athlete, who represents Team Manchester, is also proudly supported through the Tameside Active Champions programme, an accolade that highlights her dedication, commitment and inspirational impact within the local sporting community.
Daisey is already the reigning English champion in weightlifting.
Before a competition Daisey trains up to four times a week, showing her dedication to succeeding in the sport.
