The organisers of the popular Tameside Rotary Beer Festival have proudly handed over £8,700 to a range of charities following this year’s successful event.

Held in September at Stalybridge Civic Hall, the festival attracted around 1,000 visitors, supported by 56 volunteers. Over 2,200 pints of draught beer, cider, lager and wine were enjoyed, all in aid of good causes. The event raised more than £9,000 in total, with the majority now distributed to local and international charities.

At Willow Wood Hospice, a cheque for £4,000 was presented to Community and Events Fundraiser Tara Farren by Tameside Rotary President Mike Glover. This donation brings the club’s total contribution to the hospice this year to an impressive £9,100.

A few days earlier, a further cheque for £2,500 was handed to Adam George, Community Fundraising Co-ordinator for The Christie Charity, supporting the hospital’s world-renowned cancer care and research.

In addition to these major beneficiaries, Tameside Rotary is donating £1,000 to four local Tameside food banks, a welcome boost for families facing hardship this Christmas. A further £1,200 is being donated to ShelterBox and Disaster Aid to help provide emergency humanitarian relief following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa across Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba.

President Mike Glover said: “We are delighted that so many people visited the Tameside Beer Festival this year. The charitable causes, who are the primary beneficiaries of this fundraiser, are those which are close to so many peoples’ hearts. The generosity of the local community including Tameside businesses who sponsored the event, shows how much people value the services they provide. We are proud to be able to support them, and other charities, in this way”.

Looking ahead, Tameside Rotary’s much-loved Santa Float Collection begins on 4 December 2025, spreading festive cheer and raising more funds for local causes. Full route details and static collection points can be found at www.TamesideRotaryClub.com.

Formed in November 2015, Tameside Rotary has made a significant difference across the borough, donating around £20,000 each year to local charities. The club now has more than 25 members from across Tameside and meets on the second Tuesday of each month in various locations.

Membership is open to everyone, and as part of the international Rotary network, members also contribute to global initiatives, such as supporting an Eye Hospital in Bangladesh in partnership with Global Sight Solutions and the Rotary Club of Sylhet Pride.
