LOYAL Manchester City fan Roger Buttress, from Droylsden, has been supported by Reablement to reach his ultimate goal of attending their final game of the season.
Before support from Tameside Council's Reablement Service, Roger didn’t feel confident with his mobility and felt hesitant using the stairs alone. To begin with Reablement support workers called three times a day to help him re-gain skills he needed to achieve his goal. This included supported walks to build his strength and reassurance from the team.
The team reached out to Manchester City to tell them about his recent struggles and his passion for the club. Roger a received a letter and two signed photos which really encouraged him to carry on improving his mobility.
Following a period of support Roger doesn’t require any ongoing care and support.
Roger said: ‘’The team who have helped me have been amazing, each and every person played a big part in making me feel confident and happy again!’’
Strategic Director of Adult Social Care and Health, Joe Kelly said: ‘’Thank you to Reablement team for going the extra mile for Roger, this truly is the high-quality tailored care that we strive to provide in Tameside.
‘’A huge well done to Roger too. With his determination and positive mindset, he worked together with his support worker to truly live well and achieve his goal. I’m pleased to hear that he doesn’t need any further support to do the things he enjoys.’’
Tameside Council’s Reablement Service is offered for up to six weeks, this is short-term non chargeable support provided at home, giving people the opportunity to regain lost skills after a spell in hospital or illness.
