Muizzah Tayyab and Victoria Saville, Year 5 and 6 pupils from Silver Springs Academy in Tameside, have been awarded the national title of Reading Plus Champions.
Muizzah and Victoria are two of the few students to have completed the entirety of DreamBox Reading Plus – a reading development programme used by over 130,000 students across the country.
Karen Allen, High-Level Teaching Assistant at Silver Springs, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to once again have students graduate from the Reading Plus programme. This year we are celebrating our youngest ever graduate, Muizzah, who has completed the college-level programme in Year 5.
“Victoria has also completed the programme, and together these children are a shining example of determination and the effort needed to achieve success.”
Reading Plus Champions receive a prize kit to celebrate and support their Champion role, including activities like publishing blogs on the Daisy Education website and interviewing children’s authors.
Karen continued: “The girls will make great Reading Plus Champions! Muizzah is very self-motivated and her work is always to the highest standard. Victoria enjoys reading and will devour a book – this love will help her with the Champion tasks and she is looking forward to interviewing an author.”
This is not the first success for Silver Springs – or the Saville family. Last year, the school had three students achieve the exclusive Reading Plus Champion title, including Victoria’s brother Michael Saville.
Victoria said: “I feel proud and accomplished about becoming a Reading Plus Champion because it took a lot of time and effort.”
Muizzah said: “I like the fact that Reading Plus improves your reading skills.”
Daisy Education (formerly known as Reading Solutions UK), providers of Reading Plus, organise initiatives to support the programme’s efforts in improving pupils’ reading skills and fostering reading for pleasure.
Karen finished: “Reading Plus has had a very positive impact on reading at Silver Springs. If it wasn’t for the amazing efforts of both students and staff, children would not have made such accelerated progress in reading proficiency, understanding of vocabulary and reading comprehension.”
Matt Lewis, Reading Development Consultant for Reading Plus, said: “Muizzah and Victoria should be incredibly proud of their achievements and all they have accomplished in their new roles.”
