Tameside Libraries are helping residents prioritise their health and wellbeing with a programme of free activities and support during Health Information Week 2026.
As part of the national awareness week, libraries across the borough will be highlighting trusted, high-quality health information and creating welcoming spaces for people to relax, learn and connect.
A key feature of the week is the Tameside Libraries Health Fair, which will take place at Ashton Library on Tuesday 20 January from 10am to 2pm. The free event will give residents the chance to speak directly with a range of local organisations and find out more about the health services and support available in Tameside.
Organisations attending include NHS Tameside and Glossop Talking Therapies, Healthwatch, Tameside Macular Society Support Group, Home-Start, and Tameside Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group. Visitors can ask questions, pick up information and be signposted to services that may support their physical or mental wellbeing.
Health Information Week runs nationally from 19 to 25 January 2026 and is a multi-sector campaign promoting reliable health information for patients and the public.
Alongside the Health Fair, Tameside Libraries will also be running jigsaw and mindful colouring sessions throughout the week at different library locations. These relaxed sessions are aimed at adults and are designed to help people unwind, take time for themselves and boost their sense of wellbeing.
The sessions will take place on:
- Monday 19 January, Dukinfield Library, 10am to 12.30pm
- Wednesday 21 January, Stalybridge Library, 1pm to 4pm
- Thursday 22 January, Hattersley Library, 1pm to 4pm
- Friday 23 January, Droylsden Library, 1pm to 4pm
Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Councillor Leanne Feeley, said: “The Health Fair is a fantastic opportunity to connect with local groups and make informed decisions.
“I encourage everyone to visit our libraries during Health Information Week to access this valuable, reliable information and manage your physical and mental wellbeing through the sessions.”
