In an era where digital access is essential for education, employment, and social inclusion, Tameside Community Computers CIC (TCC) continue to make a profound impact on communities across Tameside, Oldham, and beyond.
The group is a not for profit organisation dedicated to tackling digital poverty, and has gifted over 5,000 devices to individuals and families in need, ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital age.
On Friday 23rd May, the team furthered their mission by donating 15 brand-new TCL 10.1" Android tablets to pupils at Wild Bank Primary School in Stalybridge. These tablets were generously gifted to TCC by TCL Mobile, a global leader in consumer electronics and mobile technology, to support their efforts in addressing digital poverty.
The donation followed a survey conducted by us to assess the level of digital access among students at Wild Bank Primary.
85% of pupils lacked their own device to complete homework at home. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for initiatives like the TCC's, which provide essential technology to those who would otherwise struggle to keep up in an increasingly digital world.
This latest donation is not the first time TCC have supported Wild Bank Primary School. Last year, they provided laptops to ensure that every pupil in Year 6 had access to a personal device for educational purposes. Soon, they will extend this initiative to Year 5 students, ensuring they too have laptops for use at home, furthering our commitment to digital inclusion.
TCL Communications UK is part of TCL Technology, a multinational electronics company founded in 1981. With operations in over 160 countries, TCL is a leading innovator in display technology, mobile devices, and smart home solutions.
Speaking on the donation, William Paterson, UK & Ireland Country Director at TCL, stated: “At TCL, we believe that access to technology should never be a barrier to learning. We're proud to support Tameside Community Computers in their incredible work to help bridge the digital divide. By donating these tablets, we hope to support the pupils at Wild Bank Primary School in accessing the essential digital tools they need for their learning."
As TCC continue to work tirelessly to provide devices to those in need, the demand remains high. Businesses and individuals looking to support their mission can contribute by donating unused devices or funding new ones.
Every contribution helps ensure that more children and families gain access to the digital world, unlocking opportunities for education, employment, and social connection.
