Four dedicated Ashton United supporters successfully completed a challenging 27-mile sponsored walk on Saturday, raising funds for local football and community initiatives.
Wayne, Scott, Jamie and Ste set off from Ashton United Football Club at 1am, embarking on the demanding off-road journey to Stocksbridge Park Steels Football Club. After battling through ever-changing weather conditions, the group arrived just in time for the 3pm kick-off, completing the trek in an impressive 14 hours.
Despite the physical challenge and unpredictable conditions, spirits remained high throughout, with the walkers united in their determination to support the Ashton United Official Supporters Club and Ashton United in the Community.
Their efforts are part of a growing tradition of endurance challenges. In 2024, supporters completed an even longer 38.5-mile walk over two days from Ashton to Matlock Town, demonstrating the lengths they are willing to go, literally, for their club.
This year’s challenge, while shorter in distance, proved equally demanding as it was completed in a single day, requiring careful pacing and resilience to meet the tight schedule.
Funds raised from the walk will go towards supporting grassroots football, community programmes, and outreach initiatives run by Ashton United Official Supporters Club and Ashton United in the Community. Both organisations play a vital role in bringing people together through football and providing opportunities within the local area.
Donations are still open for those wishing to support the cause: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ashtonunitedsponsoredwalk?utm_medium=CF&utm_source=CL
