Stalybridge centenarian Nancy celebrates 100th birthday in style

There were smiles, laughter, and even a visit from “Elvis” as Parkhill Nursing Home in Stalybridge celebrated a very special milestone on Wednesday 15th October, the 100th birthday of much-loved resident Nancy, who marked the incredible occasion surrounded by family, friends, staff and fellow residents.

Born in Warwickshire, Nancy has lived a full and active life. She met her husband at a village dance, a story her family still loves to tell, and later moved to Stalybridge when her first daughter was around two years old.

A proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother, Nancy’s family now spans five generations: two daughters, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her loved ones describe her as a wonderful babysitter and someone who’s always kept active.

Nancy’s family revealed her secret to a long and happy life is simple, “a vodka orange and lots of walking!”

The team at Parkhill Nursing Home went all out to make sure the celebration was one to remember. The room was beautifully decorated, staff proudly wore sashes reading ‘Nancy’s 100th’, and the birthday girl herself donned a tiara and ‘Birthday Queen’ sash. Guests enjoyed wine, a buffet, and live entertainment, including a performance from an Elvis Presley tribute act, which had everyone singing along.

Adding to the day’s excitement, Nancy was delighted to receive a special birthday card from King Charles and Queen Camilla, marking her century with royal recognition.
