The youngest pupils at St Christopher’s Primary School have proven that even little feet can make a big difference.

Nursery and reception children at the Ashton-under-Lyne school took part in a vibrant and joy-filled fundraising event on April 1st, transforming their playground into a sea of colour for a special Colour Run. Dressed in their brightest and boldest outfits, the children ran laps around the playground and tackled a fun obstacle course, all to raise money as part of their Lent fundraising efforts.

After being presented with several charity options, the pupils made a heartfelt choice to support the Children’s Unit at Tameside Hospital, a cause close to home for many of them. Several children have visited the unit themselves, making the cause all the more meaningful.

With the enthusiastic support of teachers, families, and the local community, the nursery and reception classes raised an impressive £1,306.

Mrs Diane Diamond, the reception teacher at St Christophers said: “We love to support local causes and were really excited to put on a colour run for our nursery and reception classes. We are so happy to have supported the Children’s Unit at Tameside Hospital.”

The money raised will go directly to supporting young patients at Tameside Hospital, helping to provide comfort and care to children during their stay.

Emily Whelan, charity manager for Tameside Hospital, attended the school on the 27th of June to receive the funds raised on behalf of the hospital.

Emily said: “A huge thank you to the Nursery and Reception classes at St Christopher’s RC Primary School. The children came together to decide where they wanted the money from their Colour Run to go — and they chose to support our Children’s Unit. Their generosity will make such a difference to our youngest patients, and we are so grateful for their kindness.”
