Road closed as police chase from Hyde ends in crash

Ashworth Lane in Hattersley has been closed today (17 December) after emergency services were called following a police chase that started in Hyde.

Police, paramedics and firefighters attended the scene. The collision involved a black Vauxhall Astra, a black Mercedes-Benz SUV and a white pick-up truck.

A man has been rushed to hospital following the incident, the extent of his injuries hasn't yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At shortly after 11.40am on Wednesday (December 17) one fire engine from Hyde fire station was called to a crash involving three vehicles on Ashworth Lane, Mottram. Firefighters made the vehicles safe and were in attendance for around 10 minutes."

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "At around 10.50am this morning (Wednesday 17 December 2025), officers on patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle on Mottram Road in Hyde, Tameside.

"The vehicle failed to stop for officers and a short pursuit ensued. A few minutes later, the driver of a Vauxhall Astra collided with two vehicles on Stockport Road.

"A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and dangerous driving. He remains in custody for questioning. No injuries have been reported by the occupants of the two vehicles that the Astra collided with. Investigations are ongoing."
