Residents invited to shape major regeneration plans for Ashton and Stalybridge

Residents and businesses across Ashton and Stalybridge are being invited to have their say on plans that could help shape the future of two of the borough’s towns.

A public consultation is now open on proposals to create the Ashton & Stalybridge Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC), which aims to bring new homes, jobs and investment to the area.

The plans focus on key locations including Ashton town centre, Stalybridge town centre, Ashton Moss, and Guide Bridge, with the potential to deliver around 3,000 new homes, improved transport links, and new opportunities for local businesses. These areas have been identified as a nationally significant, transport-led regeneration opportunity, with the potential to unlock major investment,

The consultation is an opportunity for local people to share their views on the proposals, including whether the plans meet the needs of the community and whether the proposed boundaries are right.

Councillor Eleanor Wills, Executive Leader Tameside Council, said: “This is a really important opportunity for residents and businesses in Ashton and Stalybridge to help shape the future of their area. We want to see development that works for our communities bringing new homes, better jobs, and improved transport, while protecting what makes our towns special. I would strongly encourage everyone to take part in the consultation and make their voice heard.”

A Mayoral Development Corporation is a partnership that helps bring investment into an area and deliver regeneration, working alongside the council, which would continue to make planning decisions.

The consultation is open until 8 July 2026, and feedback will help shape the final plans.
