Residents in Tameside are being asked by Tameside Council to have their say on proposed changes to the Council Tax Support (CTS) Scheme.
The scheme ensures that low-income households receive essential financial support aiming to prevent hardship and promote stability for residents. Proposed small changes are designed to maintain effective support for eligible households.
Changes identified include increased support for carers and disabled children and strengthening work incentives.
The proposal sets out that the scheme will continue to disregard several elements of Universal Credit, child benefits, disability benefits and bereavement support payments. It will also continue to protect war pensioners when calculating eligibility.
This is a statutory review of the scheme to encourage residents, stakeholders and partner organisations to comment on proposed changes and their potential impact.
With £18.5 million invested by Tameside Council at the start of 2026, the current revised income banded scheme has been operating successfully for the last two years.

The consultation runs from Monday 7 September 2026 until Sunday 29 November 2026. Following this, Full Council will review the proposal with consultation results, and the chosen scheme will become effective from April 2027.
