Tameside residents are once again being urged to recycle their real Christmas trees with Willow Wood Hospice, turning festive clean-up into vital support for local patient care.

The Hospice has teamed up with partners including Tameside Council to offer a hassle-free collection and recycling service running from Monday 5 to Friday 9 January 2026. Households across the borough can register their real tree to be picked up straight from their doorstep, meaning no mess, no queues, and no needles in your car.

To book a collection, visit just-helping.org.uk/register-tree, enter your postcode and complete the short online form. Registration closes at 11.59pm on Sunday 4 January 2026.

Once registered, residents are encouraged to make a donation to Willow Wood Hospice, based in Ashton-under-Lyne. The Hospice provides specialist care for people across Tameside and Glossop who are living with life-limiting illnesses.

Sam Duncan, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Willow Wood Hospice, said: “By using our collection and recycling service, you will be disposing of your real Christmas tree responsibly and by donating, you’ll be helping us to continue providing compassionate care to those who need it most in our community.

“With only a quarter of our annual funding coming from central government, the support we receive from our community is absolutely vital. With your help, we can improve the quality of life for our patients and those closest to them, helping them to live as well as possible for as long as possible.

“We would like to thank Tameside Council for their invaluable support in facilitating our Christmas tree collections once again.”

Across Tameside, the Council’s refuse collection team will collect the registered trees before mulching them for use in parks throughout the borough.

Cllr Laura Boyle, Tameside Council’s executive member for environmental services and neighbourhoods, said: “We strongly encourage residents to get involved in this fantastic service that provides a convenient and environmentally friendly way to dispose of real Christmas trees, while also raising money for such an excellent cause. Any donations to the Willow Wood Hospice would be greatly appreciated.”

The initiative is supported by national charity Just Helping, which works with charities, volunteers and businesses to deliver community and environmental benefits. After costs, 85% of donations will go directly to Willow Wood Hospice, with up to 15% distributed to other local charities.

Residents are encouraged to register early and help make a meaningful difference in their community while ensuring their Christmas tree finds a greener end.
