Services between Guide Bridge and Romiley were suspended this morning with emergency services on the scene.
Northern Rail issued a statement this morning to say that emergency services were dealing with an incident and the disruption was expected to last until 10:30am.
Both sides of the line were blocked suspending all trains due to run between Guide Bridge and Romiley.
Police have since confirmed that a person has died on the railway this morning.
In a statement the British Transport Police have said: “Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks at 6:16am today (5 June) on the line near Hyde Central railway station.
“Officers and paramedics attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to their death.”
The line reopened just after 10am on June 5th.
British Transport Police have now confirmed it was a 50-year-old man who lost his life.
The circumstances are currently under investigation.
