Police appeal for dashcam or doorbell footage of crash which killed pensioner

Police are investigating a crash in which an elderly man was killed.

Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are continuing to investigate the collision which occurred on Stockport Road, Marple, at 11.15am on Tuesday.

A BMW car was travelling down the road when it has crossed into the opposite lane and collided with another vehicle and then collided with a building. 

Emergency services attended the scene and a 74-year-old man who was the driver, died. No other injuries were reported or dealt with at the scene.

Inquiries are ongoing by officers to establish the full circumstances and are keen to speak to any further witnesses, especially those who have CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage in the moments leading up to the incident.

Detective Constable Giblin from the Serious Collison Investigation Unit said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the loved ones who have lost a family member and friend in tragic circumstances. They are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

Whilst we continue to investigate, we need to ensure we retrieve all the best possible evidence available to us and would urge anyone who has further information that could help us to contact us direct as soon as possible.”
