Plans for huge town centre regeneration taking shape

The £17m redevelopment plan for Denton will start to take shape over the coming months.

Public spaces around the town centre and Victoria Park could benefit from significant improvements including improved pedestrian and cycling routes, and cycle parking.

The plans will use a ring-fenced pot of £16.7m in Levelling Up Funding granted to help transform the town.

Just under £3m has already been earmarked for the Festival Hall regeneration alongside repairs to Denton Town Hall.

Residents and businesses will now be invited to help shape plans for public spaces in Denton as part of the wider improvements for the area.

The projects could bring multiple benefits to the town including consolidating public services; improving community spaces; enhancing travel routes; and improving the appearance of the town.

Coun Stephen Homer, Tameside council executive member for towns transport and connectivity said: “The Public Realm Masterplan and strategies will support the goals for Denton town centre over the next 10 years, enabling the council to attract investment and deliver a sustainable future.

“We need the voices of both residents and businesses to shape this vision. Denton, like many town centres, needs investment and action to meet the needs of current and future communities. 

“Public input is vital, and this strategy must reflect what people want, so that Denton can be a place everyone is proud to call home.”

To gain people’s views, stakeholders are being invited to sessions held during the week commencing September 21. 

A public drop-in session will take place at the Create Centre in Hyde on Wednesday, September 24 from 12.30pm until 7pm where everyone can pop in and have a look at the draft proposals. 

There is also an online survey which can be completed by residents who would like to comment but are unable to make the drop-in session.
