Stalybridge shimmered with colour and creativity on Saturday as the much-loved Northern Lights Winter Parade returned on 15 November, officially launching Tameside’s festive celebrations.

Marking its 10th year, the magical parade once again delivered an evening full of sparkling culture and community spirit. Hundreds gathered along the route as lanterns glowed, drums rolled and giant puppets towered above the crowds. The procession, organised by Tameside Council in partnership with Global Grooves, Cabasa and No Eyed Theatre, wound its way from Waterloo Road to Armentières Square between 5pm and 6pm.

Stunning illuminated creations, crafted in the weeks leading up to the event by local schools, community groups and volunteers, lit the way and showcased the town’s incredible artistic talent. As the parade reached its finale, the celebrations continued with the much-anticipated switch-on of Stalybridge’s Christmas tree lights, adding extra sparkle to the evening.

The event also coincided with a special festive edition of Stalybridge Street Fest, which ran from 4pm to 8pm and drew visitors with delicious food, live entertainment and family-friendly activities. Earlier in the day, the town’s Christmas cheer began with the Artisan Markets at Stalybridge Civic Hall from 11am, offering shoppers a chance to pick up unique gifts and seasonal treats.
