A heartwarming addition to Stamford Park has brought smiles to the faces of local families - a brand-new wheelchair-accessible swing has been installed, opening up new possibilities for children with disabilities to enjoy the park like never before.
Nicola Sweeney, a local parent, who visited the park recently, shared their joy with the Tameside Reporter: "The smile on my son’s face today was priceless. It’s something we’ll never forget. I just want to thank whoever came up with the idea and made it happen - I know it wouldn’t have been cheap!"
The wheelchair swing, which operates using the RADAR key (the same key used to access disabled toilets across the UK), allows children in wheelchairs to use the swing safely and independently. For families with disabled children, the new equipment represents far more than just a playground feature - it's an invitation to inclusion.
"It’s amazing! Now my son can join in, just like any other child. I’m so grateful. This swing will be loved by so many others too."
As more families learn about the swing’s installation, it’s sure to become a cherished part of Stamford Park’s inclusive environment.
