Neighbourhood officers in Tameside have teamed up with Foundation 92 to launch an innovative new project aimed at engaging young people and tackling anti-social behaviour across the borough.

The partnership has successfully secured funding for a mobile activity vehicle, which will bring youth activities, education, and support directly to communities in need. The vehicle will visit known hotspots across Tameside, offering a safe and welcoming space for young people to socialise and learn.

Equipped with a range of facilities, including games consoles, a kitchenette, and educational resources, the mobile service will be used to deliver both fun activities and vital messages around safety, personal development, and the consequences of anti-social behaviour.

Foundation 92, a Salford-based charity established by members of Manchester United’s “Class of ’92”, works across Greater Manchester supporting people from all backgrounds through community-focused initiatives. The charity’s involvement will see trained youth workers and community teams collaborate closely with local officers to ensure the service reaches the areas where it’s needed most.

The funding, secured through the Tameside Community Safety Partnership, will allow Foundation 92 teams to operate alongside police for the next 12 months, responding dynamically to emerging issues and targeting areas based on local data and community feedback.

Sergeant Rob Froggatt, from GMP’s Tameside Neighbourhood Policing Team, played a key role in securing the funding and believes the project will make a significant difference to young people across the district.

“Crime prevention is a fundamental part of policing, stopping criminality before it can occur and helping spread awareness of the risks associated,” Sgt Froggatt said.

“The Foundation 92’s mobile service will help keep young people off the streets by providing a safe environment for them to have fun, educate themselves, and develop going forwards.

“This will be a fantastic tool in our arsenal to prevent anti-social behaviour, by stopping young people from potentially taking part, to teaching them about the risks for themselves by engaging in it.”

Ricardo Silva, Community Programmes Manager at Foundation 92, added: “This project represents our commitment to empowering young people in Tameside with the tools, confidence and opportunities to make positive choices.

“By delivering youth work directly into communities, we can build trust, reduce risk-taking behaviours, and create safer, stronger neighbourhoods for everyone.”
