New contact route for adult social care support in Tameside

Residents in need of adult social care support are being urged to contact a new dedicated service as their first point of call from the end of March.

From Monday 30 March 2026, people seeking help will need to get in touch with Tameside Council’s Early Support and Advice Hub (ESAH) by calling 0161 342 5656.

The change means the Community Gateway will no longer coordinate calls for adult social care support. However, it will continue in its role as the single point of contact for Health District Nursing and can still be reached on 0161 922 4888.

The ESAH team provides a holistic approach to support, focusing on what matters most to each individual. Staff work closely with residents to help them understand their options and access the right care at the right time, with the aim of helping people stay well, independent and connected to their communities.

Over the past year, the service has already supported almost 5,000 residents to live well in their own homes.

Councillor John Taylor, Executive Member for Adult Social Care, said the team is committed to ensuring support is tailored to each person’s needs.

He said: “The team are dedicated and focused on making sure support fits each person’s unique needs. They look at all avenues in the community, shorter-term support and equipment to keep people living as independently and well as possible in the place they call home.

“Please make sure to share this change with others, so people know where to go for support.”

A spokesperson for Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust added that the Community Gateway will continue to play a vital role for district nursing services.

They said: “The Community Gateway will continue to play an essential role as the single point of contact for District Nursing, offering a responsive, compassionate service for patients, carers and professionals.

“We will continue to work closely with Tameside Council to ensure members of our community can access the support they need as smoothly as possible.”
