Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley has appointed board member Keith Skerman as its new Chair of Trustees.
Keith officially took on the role at a board meeting on Tuesday 9 September, succeeding Andrew Kilbrun, who steps down after five years as Chair and more than a decade of service on the board.
Emmaus Mossley, based at Longlands Mill, provides a home, work opportunities and tailored support for up to 26 people who have experienced homelessness. The charity focuses on helping individuals to regain confidence, build skills and move forward positively with their lives.
Speaking about his appointment, Keith said:“I am excited to lead this successful organisation that supports people to progress in their lives after homelessness. As a resident of Tameside, I want to contribute to this valued local charity, building on what has been achieved to ensure that Emmaus Mossley thrives for many years to come.”
Keith brings over 47 years of experience in adult social work and social services, having worked in senior roles across the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Outgoing Chair Andrew Kilburn praised the organisation and offered his support to Keith: “I’d like to wish all the best to Keith, the new Chair of Trustees. My message to him is that he’s very lucky. He's joining a great organisation with a really good staff team and a good bunch of trustees. I think he's very fortunate to be associated with a great organisation, as he will get a huge amount of satisfaction… and I know that's why he wanted to join us in the first place.”
Looking ahead, Keith is keen to strengthen the charity’s board by recruiting more voluntary trustees. Emmaus Mossley is appealing for people with experience in governance, retail, health and safety or support housing to step forward.
Keith added: “One of my first duties is to help strengthen Emmaus Mossley’s board by finding new trustees with a mix of experience and expertise. We are keen to recruit people with knowledge of either governance, retail, health and safety, or supported housing. I urge anyone interested in joining us to find out more via our website.”
