A new apartment block could soon be built on land that was once home to the North Star pub in Dukinfield.
The new scheme tabled with Tameside council would see 32 new flats built on the site off Queen Street.
HJK Construction Ltd, the developer behind the plans, wants to erect a four-floor building with eight apartments across each floor. There would be a mix of two and one-bedroom flats, with car parking, cycle storage and bin storage on the ground accommodated for on the ground level.
A similar application for a five-storey, 32-home, apartment block was approved by the council in 2022, so the applicant believes this scheme would be acceptable.
The North Star pub, a replacement for what used to be the Talbot in Dukinfield, closed down in the early 2000s and was eventually demolished. The site has remained vacant ever since.
Planning papers read: “The site provides an opportunity to provide much needed homes on a site within the existing residential area with development in a similar grain to that of its surroundings. The site will provide both one and two-bed apartments to the local residential market on a previously developed brownfield site.
“The need for well-designed, accessible and sustainable homes is well documented in both local and national policy. This proposal sustainably addresses this need with a small, fast-paced development in an existing residential area on a largely brownfield vacant site.”
This is an outline application for the apartment block. If approved, further reserved matters approval from Tameside council would be required before any building work could start.
