A woman has just completed her ‘hardest’ fitness challenge to raise cash for the hospital which treated her daughter.
Kay Garratt took on the Manchester Half Marathon in aid of Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Kay’s daughter Ella Cooper was born with a very rare genetic condition known as Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome.
The condition causes developmental delay in children.
Ella was diagnosed at 22 months of age and had to stay in hospital for a total of seven weeks.
The stay also included the youngster’s first Christmas and New Year’s Day – which is also her birthday.
Kay said: “Spending Christmas in hospital made us realise how much the charity actually do to make such a special time of year so lovely for those going through hard, stressful times.
“Manchester Children’s Hospital have done so much for Ella, me and her dad, Scott, and we could not thank them enough for everything they have done and are still doing.
“I felt it was time to give something back to the children’s hospital, staff and charity. I took on my first half marathon, which took me three hours to complete.
“It was a very hard run but I trained so hard to be able to complete this run.
“I would like to thank the Hyde Village Striders running group that have helped me train, where I have met lots of lovely friends who have all helped me through the training.
“I would also like to thank Niall Yates, an amazing personal trainer at Energie Fitness in Hyde, in helping me with my fitness training.
“Up to now I have raised an amazing £309, and I would like to thank everyone that has donated to my page.”
