Micklehurst Primary School hosts their very own Arts Award Presentation

Tameside’s got talent and that’s official!

Micklehurst Primary School hosted their very own Arts Award Presentation on Wednesday 1 July with the Civic Mayor of Tameside Councillor Helen Bowden in attendance.

The event celebrated the hard work the year 6 pupils did whilst taking part in the ‘Jack and the Christmas Tree’ Lets Perform Panto project coordinated by Tameside Cultural Services.

The project saw pupils and teachers taking part in National Theatre teacher CPD, worked with National Theatres professionals, scripts and music (also supported by Tameside Music Service), to create and perform their own pantomime to their friends and family. Pupils created ambitious and exciting school panto performances that had been grounded in inclusive rehearsal practices. The project looked to develop and support the wellbeing agenda; with the aim to develop children’s confidence, communication skills and wellbeing. The project also continues to champion and support study of new writing and diverse representation. By taking part in this project, each pupil achieved an Arts Award Discover.

Year 6 class teacher feedback included:

The entire project proved to be a brilliant opportunity for the children to showcase their creativity – it was lovely to see their confidence grow throughout the rehearsals and they had an absolute ball performing their masterpiece to an audience filled with their family and friends. It certainly created lots of lasting memories!

This Arts Award presentation provides a valued occasion to celebrate our commitment as a school to the arts and to reflect on the importance of projects like the Let’s Perform Panto.

Arts Award is vital in supporting young people to develop as artists and arts leaders in their communities and Tameside is committed to helping young people achieve their goals in this area by providing opportunities and support for them to flourish and develop within their chosen artistic pathway.

The Arts Award is facilitated through the support of Tameside Councils Cultural – who support and works to improve young people’s lives by increasing opportunities for active participation in arts, culture and creative learning.
