Magic and memories on the menu as Tameside’s winter HAF programme launches

Magic and memories await children across Tameside this winter as the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme unveils a festive schedule packed with fun, food and seasonal celebrations.

Families can look forward to a wide range of free holiday sessions taking place throughout December at venues across the borough. The programme includes both Christmas and non-Christmas themed activities, ensuring there’s something for everyone, from lively festive parties and ice skating to bowling and special visits from Father Christmas himself.

Every booking comes with a healthy, nutritious meal, supporting families during the school holidays and helping children enjoy both fun and food in a safe, welcoming environment.

Delivered by Tameside Council, the HAF Programme continues to be a vital resource for local families. Alongside its mainstream activities, the winter schedule also features dedicated sessions for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), offering accessible, inclusive activities designed to meet their needs.

To take part, children must be eligible for benefit-related free school meals, ensuring the programme reaches those who benefit most from additional support during the holiday period.

Councillor Teresa Smith, Tameside Council Executive Member for Children and Families, said: “It’s wonderful to see Tameside filled with family-friendly activities that make the festive season magical for our young people. The HAF Programme is invaluable all year round, supporting parents during school holidays by creating safe spaces where children can play, eat and thrive. By offering free activities for children from reception to Year 11 alongside a nutritious meal, we’re helping families make lasting memories.”
