Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Trust is now home to 120 ‘Fabler Bjorn’ teddy bears, thanks to a generous donation from IKEA Manchester.
These cuddly bears are more than just toys – each bear will be a source of comfort for someone going through tough times.
The teddies can be included in ‘memory boxes’ for bereaved families, giving children a special object to remember their loved one by.
“We really appreciate IKEA’s support for this fantastic local cause on top of their existing national charity commitments,” said Emily Whelan, Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity Manager.
“This generous donation will help support families, especially children, in our community during some of the most difficult moments they will face.”
Jo Moody from the hospital palliative care team said “Losing a loved one is never easy. We know that families can find our memory boxes to be an incredibly meaningful source of support.
“We hope that the addition of these cuddly bears will help bring comfort to children experiencing a bereavement.
“Thank you to IKEA for supporting our SWAN model of care, promoting dignity, respect and compassion at the end of life.”
A representative from IKEA Manchester said “IKEA Manchester are really happy that we could support such a heart warming cause, especially as Tameside Hospital is local to our store and our community, and will bring some comfort to children suffering from bereavement.”
