A 17-year-old from Hyde has discovered his future career path after attending the Tameside Jobs Fair.

Lewis, who previously worked weekend shifts at a local restaurant, was struggling to secure suitable employment despite sending out numerous applications. It was his mum who encouraged him to attend the employment event at Dukinfield Town Hall, a decision that proved to be life-changing.

The most recent Jobs Fair, hosted by Tameside Council earlier this year, welcomed more than 900 residents and featured over 40 employers and training providers. The event gave attendees the chance to explore a wide range of roles and career opportunities.

For Lewis, the fair opened the door to a full-time role with Hyde Group as a Trainee Aircraft Paint Sprayer. He said the support he received from the Jobs Fair team was invaluable.

Lewis explained: "I used other methods that weren't really working, but I really recommend going to the Jobs Fair - it helped me a lot. There were tons of opportunities, and it was a very straightforward process. The team gave me details about each step and everything I needed to do in the initial stages.

"I've now found a role I can see myself doing long-term, and they have said when I'm happy to progress, they will find new opportunities within the workplace."

With ongoing guidance and the promise of future development opportunities, Lewis feels confident that his role offers both stability and potential for growth.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, praised Lewis’s success: "It's fantastic to hear one of the success stories resulting from the Jobs Fair. Lewis is in a great role, with opportunities for development. We hope this story encourages other residents to make the most of the Jobs Fairs. There's always a versatile range of employment and training opportunities, and the teams offer a lot of support for the process."

The next Tameside Jobs Fair will take place on Wednesday 1st October, from 10am to 1pm at Dukinfield Town Hall. Residents will once again have the chance to meet employers, explore training options, and access practical support, including CV advice and interview preparation from Team Tameside.
