Hyde Mela will enjoy an early summer showing this weekend

Crowds gathered in Hyde Park for Hyde Mela

It is the fifth year the popular event has been held, but rather than taking place over the late August Bank Holiday, this year’s fifth Mela will be staged at Hyde Park on Sunday.

Literally thousands have enjoyed the Mela over the years which has become a popular event. A Mela is a term used to describe a “meet” or “gathering,” and used to describe a large-scale festival or fair.

A busy programme of events and attractions are promised once again, with event entertainment designed to reflect the diverse culture of the area’s community.

Various acts will entertain at this year’s Mela, with live music including African drummers, a samba band and a brass band.

There will be lots of attractions in and around the park too, with Tame Valley Classic & Vintage Car Club staging another of their ever popular classic car shows.

There will be birds of prey, plus an artisan market with a wide variety of stalls offering a various range of goods and food items for visitors to enjoy and local charity stalls, showcasing their work.

The Mela will also play host to fairground rides and attractions for children and there will be henna artists too.

The party starts at 11am this Sunday, July 27, at Hyde Park, with free parking available. The Mela will continue until 5pm.

Thousands attended the Mela in 2022, although 2023’s numbers were down with the event adversely affected by poor weather and rain, although last year’s Mela bounced back and organisers will be hoping for a sunny day this Sunday.
